Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities. Desperate to return home, she learns that only a man named Professor Marselle can help her… but he’s missing.
While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora’s boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can’t ignore her fear that something unexpected… something sinister… is looming.
An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex’s shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race’s survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home?
Will Alex risk her entire world—and maybe even her life—to save Medora?

What an amazing story! I finished the book in about 2.5 hours. I just couldn’t put it down! So it starts off with Alexandra(Alex) being shipped off to boarding school because her parents are going on this once in a lifetime expedition but they can’t bring her. But before she can start school she is transported into another world known as Medora. There she meets Jordan and Bear who become her best friends and Aven who is attractive but she feels something dangerous coming from him. She enlists in the local academy for gifted students because she apparently has a gift but has no idea what is is. She does find out that she ranks really high in equestrian, combat and other skills that she has no background in. She starts her classes and its a whirlwind of information. Jordan and Bear help her cope but she handles it pretty well. She does get sent to the nurse who is really a cute doctor named Fletcher who heals her quite a lot during her school term. Aven though comes around and he is bad news, he is trying to get into the legendary library to access something that could tear Medora apart. And Alex might be the only one to stop him!

Alex is a GREAT character! I really connected with her throughout the story and shes a tough girl. She really is open-minded and questions a lot. She also doesn’t try to push any of her friends away when she needs them. They are always there for her and she takes advantage of that. She wasn’t whinny and was very independent and wanting to know more about this new world. I was SOOO worried when she met Jordan and Bear because I was like OH BOY here comes the love triangle but NOPE! I was so ecstatic to see that they were just friends and they stayed that way throughout the whole book. I just fell in love with Bear and Jordan! I wish I had friends like that when I was in high school. The other characters were great and they flowed so well into the story. The world building was beautiful! It wasn’t all just thrown at you and you learned when Alex learned. And Medora is just amazing! I wish I could travel there myself!

The reason why I only gave it 4 stars was because it did drag a little in the middle of the story. I loved learning about Alex’s classes and what she learned and the pace was good but sometimes it was just too much. I wanted some action happening but overall I loved how Noni incorporated more of her school life and it wasn’t just drama. It was about her actual classes and what she was learning which made me want to learn more about it with her.

I really recommend this book if you are looking for a quick fantasy read. I am really looking forward to reading the next book, Raelia!
